Dear Parents:
As we prepare for another year of religious education for your child, we want to assure you that we put your child’s safety as our number one concern. Although the numbers of new cases in New York State remain below 1%, we have to remain vigilant and continue to follow all protocols, both from the State and our diocese.
With that in mind, we have decided to begin a hybrid program that will continue until such time as medical authorities tell us it is safe to once again gather without fear of either contracting the coronavirus or having a proven treatment for it. All classes will be conducted at home, with the help of the parents (homeschooled) and the assistance of text books and emails from our teachers. For our children who will be receiving their Sacrament of Communion or Confirmation, there will also be a monthly gathering as announced in ongoing email conversations with your childs teachers or myself. Our communion classes will meet once a month on designated Sunday’s from 9:30-10:40am (followed immediately by Mass for the entire family) and our Confirmation students will meet on designated Wednesday evenings from 7pm-8:15pm, also on a once a month basis followed up with emails by their teachers. These gatherings for grades 2 and 8 will be socially distanced and masks must be worn by all. Hand sanitizers and temperature checks will be utilized to help keep your child safe.
Attached please find this years registration forms. You will note that the fee’s have been reduced by half this year. Kindly fill-out the registration form and drop off to the parish office no later than October 9th. If this is a Sacramental year for your child (grade 2 and 8) and they were not baptized at St Andrews, then a baptismal certificate from their parish of baptism must accompany the registration form, (unless previously submitted) along with the noted fee. When you drop off your forms, our staff members will guide you in taking home the required text books. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 930am-230pm.
I know for some that this might be an extra burden to your already busy day but I also believe that it can bring you closer to both your faith and the teaching of that faith to your child. Share the experience of our rich catholic faith and traditions with your child and your family. Pray together and allow the Holy Spirit to renew and strengthen your family’s faith and the love that Jesus has for all of us. Let it become a special time to be shared.
Once the registrations are processed, you will receive an email from your teacher outlining the lesson schedule. You will always be able to contact either your teacher or myself should you have any questions or concerns.
On behalf of Fr’s Peter and Manuel, as well as our staff, we thank you for helping us keep your child safe and for partnering with us to continue their catholic education. I look forward to this cooperative experience.
Prayerfully yours,
Robert A Diederiks
Administrator, Religious Education
